Including a Led Primary Series class regularly in your practice routine has many benefits. Its a great way to “put all together” what you’ve learned in mysore class, and to help you get more familiar with the vinyasa count and sanskrit names of postures. Both of these elements, once committed to memory, can help your practice become more meditative on a daily basis. Led classes can also be a great way to test your physical endurance (keeping pace) and mental focus (listening). And of course, Led classes are an opportunity for you to gather with your yoga community and share in the collective energy and enthusiasm for practice.
COMMUNITY CONFERENCE When the early western students started going to Mysore India to study with Pattabhi Jois, they had a lot of questions, and during their practice in the shala (mysore class) was not the time to have these sorts of discussions. So Jois would have informal gatherings later in the day and address whatever questions or topics came up. As more westerner came, it became a more formal thing, and they called it “conference”. Sharath Jois still holds conferences with the students that come to Mysore to study with him, and many shalas around the world do the same.
Stay after Led Primary, or join just for the conference (about 90 minutes after the start of class. Stacy will prepare a short talk on Ashtanga, for discussion and questions :-)
